Intuitive Painting
Intuitive painting is painting made without a prior decision about the result.
The process
It begins with a first movement on the paper with no defined intention. Each layer responds to the one before it. Instead of deciding what to paint, you recognise what has already begun to appear and give it room. The work ends when nothing more can be added without harming it.
Why it works
When there is no plan, there is also no attempt to control the outcome, and what emerges is closer to the real emotional state of the moment. That is why the works sometimes read like a diary rather than a planned series.
